Volunteers

The people who work in Community Hospitals or spend time as patients or visitors recognise the tremendous voluntary work undertaken by so many people including The League of Friends and other groups.

The staff and also the patients are grateful to the people who: -

  • arrange flowers
  • take the library books and other trollies around the wards and departments bringing reading material, toiletries and other goods to the patients
  • are part of the hospital welcomers
  • visit patients to read, write letters or do the occasional shopping
  • are on the rota for the hospital shop
  • provide refreshments in the busy outpatient departments
  • organise and participate in fundraising events
  • drive and assist the patients in the transport provided by the volunteers
  • tend designated  gardens

However, we do not claim to have mentioned all the volunteers but recognise that without them our local hospitals would have difficulty surviving.

As an Association we would like to thank so many League of Friends, for funding the annual subscription to the CHA, either for their organisation or on behalf of their Community Hospital. Many provide funding for staff to attend the Annual Conference. This is such an important function and is genuinely appreciated by the staff. It allows them to recharge their batteries and return to the workplace refreshed, motivated and with new ideas gleaned from such an event.

Over many years we have received information about the sterling work which goes on locally. Listed below are a few of the articles which we have published. They highlight the commitment and support from the general public for their local services.
