In 1984 he moved to Surbiton where he has practised since. He became a GP trainer in 1989 and was elected onto the Local Medical Committee in 1994. He led his practice into fundholding in the first wave in 1990 and became involved in many local and national groups.
He co-chaired a total purchasing pilot and worked with others to set up Kingston Primary Care Group (PCG), which he subsequently chaired. He led the PCG through its public consultation to achieve Primary Care Trust (PCT) status and is now Kingston PCT Executive Committee Chair.
